Packing Essentials for a Day on Lake Havasu
There’s nothing quite like a day out on Lake Havasu—sunny skies, cool water, and miles of adventure waiting to happen. Whether you’re planning a boat rental, a paddleboard trip, or a full day of fun with friends and family, packing smart makes all the difference.
Before you head out on the water, check out our list of must-have items to bring. These essentials will help you stay safe, comfortable, and fully prepped for the ultimate Lake Havasu experience.
1. Sunscreen (and Lots of It)
Lake Havasu sunshine is no joke. Even if you’re boating with a canopy or taking breaks in the shade, the reflection off the water can increase your sun exposure. Pack a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply every couple of hours—especially after swimming. Don’t forget a lip balm with SPF too!
2. Plenty of Water
Hydration is key. With high desert temps, it’s easy to get dehydrated faster than you think. Bring more water than you think you’ll need—a gallon per person is a good rule of thumb. Bonus tip: toss a few bottles in a cooler the night before for extra refreshment.
3. Lightweight Clothing and Sun Protection
Quick-dry clothes, a wide-brim hat, and a UV-protective shirt can help keep you cool and shielded from the sun. Sunglasses with UV protection are a must—especially for boating, where glare off the water can strain your eyes.
4. Towels (Bring Extra!)
Between swimming, splashing, and lounging, you’ll want more than one towel. Quick-dry microfiber towels are perfect for lake days—they pack small, dry fast, and shake off sand easily.
5. Snacks and a Cooler
Lake days build up an appetite. Pack a variety of easy-to-eat, non-perishable snacks like trail mix, granola bars, jerky, or fresh fruit. If you’re planning a longer outing, bring a cooler with sandwiches, cold drinks, and maybe a few treats to keep everyone happy.
6. Dry Bag for Valuables
Keep your phone, keys, wallet, and other electronics dry and secure with a waterproof dry bag or box. It’s a simple item that could save you a big headache later.
7. Water Shoes or Sandals
From rocky shorelines to slippery docks, having sturdy water shoes or strap-on sandals helps protect your feet and makes walking around much easier.
8. Floaties, Life Jackets, and Water Toys
If you’re heading out with friends or kids, don’t forget the fun extras: inflatables, floating mats, or snorkel gear. Most importantly, ensure everyone has a properly fitted life jacket, especially if you’re renting a boat or jet ski.
9. Portable Speaker (Respectfully!)
A waterproof Bluetooth speaker can set the mood for your lake day. Just remember to keep volume respectful—Lake Havasu is a shared space, and we want everyone to enjoy it.
10. A Trash Bag (Leave No Trace)
Protect the beauty of Lake Havasu by bringing a trash bag and cleaning up after yourself. It’s a small step that makes a big difference.
